The Fabrication | Artisan is a skilled member of the foundry team responsible for contributing to the construction, assembly, and finishing of sculptural works. This role requires intermediate-level proficiency in welding, metal shaping, and structural fabrication. The Fabrication | Artisan works both independently and collaboratively, supporting senior experts while also guiding apprentices through foundational tasks. This position bridges the gap between apprentice and expert, ensuring the quality and craftsmanship of fabricated components that bring artwork to life. Our Fabrication department engages in a wide range of tasks, including fitting, welding, drilling, tapping, and grinding. Whether working on scaffolds, ladders, or on the floor, we employ a variety of skill sets, with welding being just one part of the expertise we utilize in the creation of our artwork.
Key responsibilities
- Executive intermediate-level fabrication tasks including cutting, welding (MIG, TIG and stick), grinding, and forming metal components.
- Machining and welding of various metals (mild steel, stainless, aluminum, bronze).
- Assemble and reinforcing artworks of various sizes and metals.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, measurements and layouts with accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve fabrication challenges.
- Work independently on assigned projects while collaborating with the Fabrication Team to meet deadlines.
- Maintain fabrication equipment, tools, and shop cleanliness.
- Assist with staging and installation of artwork.
- Uphold foundry safety standards and contribute to a respectful, collaborative workshop culture.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of metal fabrication, welding, including MIG, TIG, and Arc welding; prior art foundry experience preferred.
- Experience with hand tools, vertical/horizontal saws, plasma, and torch cutting
- Experience with rollers, press brake, and pipe bender a plus
- Experience operating jib cranes or forklifts a plus
- Experience reading and executing shop drawings with minimal tolerances
- Other metal finishing & fabrication experience a plus
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem solving skills with an ability to work under pressure
- Physical ability to lift, move, and work with heavy materials and equipment
- An appreciation for the art world would serve you well in this position
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to go up and down ladders
- Comfortable standing, bending, and working with power tools for extended periods of time
- Use of PPE including respirators, gloves, and eye/ear protection

Salary Range $25.77/hr - $30.70/hr
